The past two years have been a trying time for organisations in the arts industry, and as you will be aware Co-Opera has not been able to present its usual range of works, outreach and support for emerging artists.
We are now in a solid planning stage rebuilding Co-Opera, and looking at highly creative ways that we can continue to reach into communities, and support South Australian artists.
In past years, Co-Opera have received funding from various organisations and companies which have helped us to continue functioning as a working company, supporting the emerging artists of South Australia, taking opera to remote and regional communities of Australia.
Thanks to a generous grant from Creative Partnerships Australia in 2020, all donations given to Co-Opera were matched by the government to a total of $25,000. These funds were used for the coaching of Co-Opera’s Young Artists, culminating in a successful season of Handel’s Acis and Galatea in association with the Botanic Gardens of SA and their Botanica Lumina program.
In November 2021, SA Power Networks sponsored Co-Opera’s regional tour of Listen to My Story, an opera written for school aged children by Emma Muir-Smith and Josh van Konkelenberg, directed by Brock Roberts with set and costume design by Kathryn Sproul.
Co-Opera are also very aware of the position our emerging artists in South Australia are in, and wish to support them with performance opportunities, and audience opportunities for you all in the coming years. We also plan to offer masterclasses and workshops to these emerging artists, with performance outcomes that will be open to the public.
