Job Advertisement: ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
About the Role:
Co-Opera Inc seeks to employ a highly motivated, dynamic, and visionary Artistic Director. The successful applicant will be responsible for programming the company’s season and overseeing its implementation. They will be a recognised professional in the artistic community, and have demonstrated experience in production management, as well as familiarity with the requirements of touring. The position deals directly with the board of management, artists, staff, and patrons, and requires excellent communication and time management skills.
Duties are outlined in the position description below. The position is 0.2 FTE, remunerated with a package of $20,000 p.a. including superannuation. It is also expected that the AD will be involved artistically in productions as appropriate, for which extra remuneration is provided on a per project basis.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Planning the artistic vision of the company, in conversation with the operations manager and the Board.
- Planning the structure and content of the season
- Producing or delegating the production of publicity and marketing materials
- Grant writing
- Researching, writing and acquitting grant applications
- Sourcing and compiling grant information
- Involved in financial conversations regarding
- Company budgeting
- Production budgeting

- Overseeing all artistic aspects of productions, including
- Repertoire selection
- Script selection
- Score preparation and editing, including decisions on editions, translations, and any cuts
- Appointments including hiring of creative staff, casting of singers, auditions (general and extra), ensemble selection, all in discussion with creative staff for productions
- Discussing and guiding creative details
- Training, cultural integration and evaluation of new staff to ensure they comply with the company’s policies and standards
- Final content approvals on all marketing materials including graphic design choices and media releases
- Relationship management including ongoing meetings and collaboration with creative and administrative staff, ensembles, Board, external organisations, and sponsors
