Co-Opera Plans for the Future

Plans for 2011

The Marriage of Figaro

Marriage of Figaro Barber of Seville

Co-Opera has applied to Playing Australia for assistance towards touring its acclaimed production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro to Eastern States of Australia in March/April/May 2011 with instrumental ensemble accompaniment. For this purpose, Figaro will be rehearsed in January/February 2011.

Highlights of The Barber of Seville

An application will be submitted to Playing Australia in the next round for assistance to tour a highly affordable, slim-lined production of The Barber of Seville to regional Australia in the second half of 2011. This production will have 8 singers and be available with piano only accompaniment or small ensemble. Re-rehearsals are planned for July/August 2011.

The Magic Flute

It is planned to re-rehearse Co-Opera's popular production of Flute in November/December 2011 in preparation for 2012 performances.

Die Fledermaus

Die Fledermaus

An application will be submitted to Playing Australia for assistance to tour Die Fledermaus to the Eastern States of Australia in February/March and to NT/WA in August/September 2012. Re-rehearsals for this production are planned for January/February 2012

Europe in 2012

After its highly successful tour of Germany and Switzerland in May 2009, [see European reviews under Media in this web-site] Co-Opera has been invited by the Hessischestaatstheater to return to Wiesbaden in 2012 with The Marriage of Figaro and Die Fledermaus. Together with The Magic Flute these pieces will also be offered for regional touring in Central Europe under the auspices of the highly acclaimed German touring production house, Konzertdirektion Landgraf.

Expression of Interest

Employment with Co-Opera in 2011 and 2012

Co-Opera intends to offer employment to singers and instrumentalists who are able to commit to the Figaro, Fledermaus and Flute rehearsal and performance plans in Australia and Europe in each of 2011 and 2012. It is planned to employ one body of singers to meet the casting and understudy requirements of the three touring operas.

In addition to these major touring plans there are plans for performance presentation in South Australia in the popular A Taste of Opera series, details for 2011 and 2012 of which are still being considered.

Auditions in April/May 2010

It is planned to employ singers who are able to describe themselves as Adelaide-based for these projects. This is because our "shoe-string" company has no resources to pay the travel, accommodation and wage penalty costs of engaging artists "away from home" during the rehearsal periods.

Artists interested in participating in these plans are invited to direct a biography citing details of performance training and relevant performance experience to Helen Simpson, coopera@aso.com.au and to seek an audition time. Appointments will be made to hear singers in Melbourne on Saturday 24 April at 16 Merion Place, Kew 3101 and in Adelaide on Saturday 15 May and Sunday 16 May at the Thomas Edmonds Opera Studio, Adelaide Showground, Rose Terrace, Wayville, South Australia.

[Unfortunately, Co-Opera has no resources to assist artists with expenses involved in auditioning.]
